Update to Day 3
We went back out after lunch. This time Dad took us out toward Coffee. At about mile marker 24, we were stopped just glassing over the tundra and a guy drove up to us. Dad knew him so they started talking about the different things we've seen. The guy said he had seen a brown bear (grizzly) at mile 50. We thanked him for the info and as soon as he got going dad punched it and we hurried down to 50.
At about 49 Brian yells "Stop!" of course we all hurry to see what he is seeing. Sure enough there one the tundra was a big ol' grizzly. We dressed up for a hike and scrambled up the hill. But because it took us so long to get up the hill the bear had moved on and we hd to hunt it down. We saw it, however on the other aide of the hill.
As we all army crawled to the edge of the hill, the bear just kept chowing down on the blueberries.
As soon as everyone was in position and ready... Aaron shot (missed) Brian shot (missed) and my dad shot (missed). By this time all of them were chasing it with shots down the hill. And when the smoke cleared we just weren't positive the we had hit it at all. So we gradually went down to see if we could find it down by the river.
As we got on the side of the tundra that the bear was at Brian took a shot and yelled " he just went over the ridge"
Holy crap we had all been worried that we were going to find this hurt bear by the river and turns out he was running up the next hill.
So when all was said and done... We missed out grizzly and went back to the truck empty handed :{.
After getting back to the truck we saw a Red Fox. Dad shot and missed.
When we finally decided to head back to the church it was getting dark and it still took us 2 hours to get back. About a half hour before we made it back a big fat cow moose tried to run us off the road haha. That was proceeding Aaron's question "is it very common for a moose to get hit on the road?" and not 10 ft. before she jumped out in front of us. Dad did some crazy driving and we missed her. I think we were all awake after that.
